Known as an Aussie Whaler, this little center console needed a tidy up. The owner wanted extensive old holes and repairs tidied up which were mostly above the gunnel line and on the helm console. There was an aft kill locker in the floor that he requested to be glassed in and sealed. This involved glassing in a PVC drain from the compartment below the console to allow for drainage to the aft bilge. Other work included filling in door openings in the console and a redundant seat post socket in the floor. Underway we discovered rot in the casting deck on the Port side which had traveled down into the front of the hull stringer. We also found that both compartments each side below the casting deck were full of water, so this was drained and bungs fitted for future checking. This was all repaired including new hatch sills for the center casting deck hatch. With so many repairs on the deck sections and transom, we decided to respray all these surfaces. Internally all surfaces were also repainted including the nonskid on the floor. Now at a ‘blank canvas’ stage the owner will be refitting the boat ready for the high seas!
