Every now and again we get a curly little job come in. This customer had just bought his brand new center console Barcrusher but it wouldn’t fit in the garage, the console windscreen was about 6 inches too high! The first thought was to trim the acrylic windscreen and side plates down but then on closer inspection, we came up with another option to hinge the windscreen assembly back which avoided cutting the windscreen along the top edge. However the bottom of the windscreen still needed to be cut because it overhung the console and wouldn’t release. With this cut it worked perfectly hinging off the bottom two bolts. To keep some structure in the side plates which are also grab handles, the two top bolts were tapped into the console. All bolts were up-sized from M6 to M8 and the 6 bolts securing the side plates in between were tapped and threaded into the polyethylene grab handles. Using matching Allen-key drive button heads, the owner simply needs a cordless drill with an Allen-key drive to remove the two top supporting bolts each side and the windscreen can be quickly folded down. The owner was very happy that his brand new boat still looks original and to the untrained eye you wouldn’t know it had been modified!
