This American 6m import had cracking on each side on one of the planing strakes. What had caused this were large open kill pens in the back deck. These allowed the section of hull below to flex causing the damage. The strakes also had air voids behind them which were full of water. One of the main challenges was to get these areas fully dry so that the repairs could be carried out. After approx a week of drying out we were able to re-glass these areas with epoxy and E-glass fabric. The voids were also filled with epoxy glue prior to glassing. The boat will be returning to have the flexible hull areas reinforced to prevent this from happening again.
