This lovingly restored Pro Sport 1850 had some major keel issues. After lifting onto work stands and areas ground back, the keel had extensive cracking and voids along the keel section. It appears that much of this may have been from the original build and deteriorated over time. However there was also a stained old piece of timber fitted at the back of the keel which was replaced with Thermolite composite board. We also laminated up a strip of epoxy/glass solid laminate on the bench and then glued this down the full length of the keel for reinforcement. This was then glassed over and onto each side of the keel for a new stronger keel. All that was left was the filling, fairing and finishing, colour matched to the hull. This boat can now be used with confidence that the keel won’t crack open and sink the boat!
