A birthday is maybe an understatement concerning this Apollo Spaniard over-haul. The client was wanting a paint job mainly, however the list grew as we progressed. One major job added to the list was a new transom which was badly rotted. The new transom was replaced using ‘Thermolite board’ which is a composite panel, stronger than plywood but will never rot or absorb water! This would have to be the strongest Apollo transom around with all work done using epoxy. The connections to the hull were all glassed fully so no areas can begin to crack etc where usually open joints between the deck and hull are exposed. Being an older hull, every stress crack was ground back and repaired with epoxy after which 4 coats of epoxy highbuild primer were applied. Once prepped the boat was painted in a chosen off-white colour using polyurethane hardtop. The owner requested some custom stripes in a combination of grey and gold to his specifications. A refurbished windscreen was fitted as well mostly new fittings on deck. To finish off, a new Bimini cover was installed. All in all she’s come up a treat!
