Savage Refurb – Boat Refurbishments Medowie NSW

You are here: Home / Refurbishments / Savage Refurb – Boat Refurbishments Medowie NSW

March 10, 2026 by Craig

This Savage had been in the family for years but had been sitting in a shed for as many. The owner wanted to firstly get a health check on the boat to assess whether it was worth doing up. When it came in we gave the old girl a good check over and surprisingly she was in pretty good nick except for a couple of things. One was a soft spot in the back of the floor and the other was a drummy area in the transom. We removed the engine to find that the bolts were rusted apart and literally fell out of the hole! The drummy area turned out to be a delaminated section of the skin which revealed that the plywood core was in perfect condition, this appeared to have been a build fault, probably from new so we re-laminated this area with cloth and epoxy. We repaired the rotted spot in the floor and then primed and painted the floor with a 2 pack polyurethane and awlgrip nonslip grit. We also repaired the movable cross seat which had delaminated with the beam breaking away. We tidied up quite a few old holes from redundant fittings around the edge of the cockpit and the dashboard. We decided to repaint the entire transom colour matched to the hull and then refitted the engine with new bolts and a pad. Another job was to lift the boat onto work stands and refinish the keel line which had been patched up over the years, we also repaired any scratches or chips and polished the underside before lifting back onto the trailer.  We fitted new hull bung fittings, a new tow fitting, new seats and finally the owner decided to refurbish the old windscreen. We gave the boat a good polish to finish off the job and the gelcoat came up surprisingly well for the age of the boat.
