Boats get used and this little Seafarer had been used without much upkeep and was due for a good working bee to catch up! The first request from the owner was to install a new casting deck in front of the center console. We made this using composite board for strength and durability and bolted into the seats below and the side pockets. To make this usable for storage we fitted ends to the deck to make it an enclosed space for storage. There were existing hatches in the seats which we cut into the new deck to access, with a large new hatch in the center. The new deck and components were carpeted to match the floor which we also replaced in new marine carpet. The owner wanted new side and helm cushions made so these were removed so that all the gelcoat could be acid washed and polished. We found that the original cushion boards were bolted in place with mild steel bolts and the staples for the vinyl were also badly rusted. We repaired a number of cracks and scratches around the exterior and also filled in some redundant fittings and screws. We made new composite colour matched bait tank lids on the aft corners. We also noticed the aft floorboard was rotted so this was replaced in composite. The bow forefoot was also badly worn and damaged so this was all refinished. Once the new casting deck and cushions were fitted this boat looked almost brand new again and ready for some more years of service!
