‘There’s a hole in my lifeboat!’, was a complaint from a shipping company when it was damaged on a training exercise. The job was booked well in advance because the ship would only be in Newcastle Port for a single day. There was no room for error with the planning because once you’re in the Port there is no leaving to fetch a screwdriver or extra material. These are self-propelled lifeboats stowed on a steep angle ready to deploy so all the work was done at this angle. The repairs needed to be certified once completed to comply with the shipping standards. After a full day’s work the repairs were completed.
