This boat has been been back to us a number of times over the years. This time the owner requested that the cockpit seats be repaired as they were soft under foot. We know that this boat is built from Balsa core and this applied to the seats which had soft core which had also delaminated from the fiberglass skins causing it lose its stiffness. A concern here was that the mainsheet track was bolted to these seats which can be under significant load when sailing. We removed the balsa core and bonded in composite board which was glassed in with epoxy. He also requested us to check out some cracking in the hull to deck join above the V-berth in the bows. We discovered that there appeared to be a defect in the original build which we re-fiberglassed. He was also concerned about the companionway hatch cover which was also soft under foot and we assumed it may also be balsa core however it was simply fatigued fiberglass which we reinforced with additional layers of fiberglass. He also pointed out that the transom was very faded with extensive ugly repairs covering it, and would like it refinished. We gave the gelcoat some touch-ups where required and once all the work was completed this trailer sailer was ready for her next club race!
