You may remember this vessel which was a Navy training vessel we did a refit on not long ago. The owner asked us to replace the sheet metal hatches that it had with composite versions. These were made slightly different to the existing hatches with provision for waterproofing lips and edges. We also added stiffeners along the unsupported ends to provide extra strength. We made the hatches out of Coosa composite panel and glassed them with epoxy. The first step was to cut these out using our new CNC machine which saved a lot of man hours and these were cut out to the exact size. Once structurally assembled we took these down to the vessel to pre-fit and check clearances and that the hatches would stack as planned. These were then filled, faired and painted to match the vessel.
