This may help anyone concerned with the state of their transom. The transom is an important structure in a boat taking all the load from the engine. And if the transom fails it is possible to lose your engine for good not to mention sink the boat!
The photo below shows some signs to look for. It is difficult to see in the photo but the engine bolts have compressed the transom because the reinforcement inside is rotten. Also what tends to happen is the bottom of the engine bracket begins to deform the surface of the transom as seen in the photo below. There are also cracks appearing on the inside of the transom because of this.
