Why buy a new boat when your current one is not only a good design and brand but is also in structurally sound condition. This Haines Signature was very original in condition and just needed a good face-lift and tidy up. The job list started as not much more than a thorough detail and colour scheme change however the owner started adding some of his own ideas. There were a few structural areas needing attention such as replacing the cabin sole, helm side of the bulkhead and a soft spot in the floor. Apart from this the jobs included painting the maroon panel in grey polyurethane, new side pocket fronts, new seat boxes, new back hatches and an array of minor hull repairs. The seat boxes were built with ice boxes inside with a hatch behind the seat, estimated capacity with at least a carton per side with ice! All parts were sprayed in high gloss polyurethane to add a high class finish. A large number of the fittings were replaced and upgraded such as rod holders, VHF antenna, nav lights, glove box, bait tank pump, new Fusion stereo & speakers, bungees and rubber insert trims. The gelcoat had been painted with some kind of clear coat which was peeling off and causing a lot of work in trying to bring the gelcoat back to a good finish. We ended up sanding all the clear off above the gunnel line and parts of it below the gunnel on the hull. We also removed the old gunnel rubber and cleaned up the hull flange in readiness for the new rubber. Once all the gelcoat was polished back up to good finish the new gunnel rubber and fittings were installed. The boat is now in the process of getting the bimini and covers replaced which will really set this boat off. I think we can all agree how much of a difference this transformation made to a dated looking boat…
