Windscreens have a limited life span, often in need of either replacement or refurbishment. This American made Proline 35 had a leaking windscreen and on closer inspection needed a good overhaul. There was a lot of corrosion areas where the original powder coating was starting to peel. The owner requested the screen removed, re-powder coated and refitted. This involved some challenges because the screen had been fitted before the installation of the hardtop which meant some of the fasteners were difficult to get to and also the parts needed to be removed in a certain sequence. Luckily the glass and acrylic panels were still in good condition and could be re-used. Once the frame was removed it was taken to a powder-coating company who was engaged to sand blast the frame back to metal and re-powder coat. However due to what is believed to be salt contamination, pin holes appeared in the areas where the corrosion was so it was decided to paint the frame instead. With the frame finally painted and ready for re-fitting, we began re-assembling. New rubber seals were sourced and with the jigsaw puzzle finally re-assembled, leak testing began. After a couple of applications with glazing sealant, the screen was leak free once more!
