This 49 foot French designed and built sailing catamaran came out of the water for a few jobs, which quickly became a long list! The owner requested us to inspect the underwater sections of the hulls which were coated in Coppercoat epoxy antifouling however this was all peeling off for some reason. There were also extensive blistering in the hull surface which need grinding out and repairing. The rudders were dropped out and these were hollow sections which were full of water due to cracks around the shaft intrusion and also some damage. Also on the job list was to replace the cabin windows and the two escape hatches set in the sides of the hulls. The windows took a lot of time to remove and required cutting into small pieces to enable easier removal. A similar challenge was discovered with the old escape hatches which we also cut into pieces to remove, and then fitted the new ones. Work on the underwater areas also took some time as we needed to sand back the old flaking Coppercoat to ensure we had a good surface to recoat onto. We ground out and repaired all the blisters and repaired the rudders. Once all the repairs were epoxy primed we recoated the hulls and rudders with new Coppercoat. To expose the copper in this product we needed to burnish the surface with scotchbrite. We fitted the new windows in the cabin and also replaced the acrylic in the two opening hatches fitted in the front cabin windows which were re installed. After a good clean up this catamaran was once again ready for the high seas!
