This catamaran suffered some rudder and steering damage after running aground. Most of the damage was caused on the Starboard side with the bottom foil off this side rudder broken clean off. The other foil was still attached but badly damaged requiring it to be glassed back on. The rudder pintal fittings were leaking and were removed and re-mounted on the boat as well as the rudders. There were stress cracks around the Starboard keel which we ground back and checked but luckily didn’t require any repairs. A bridgedeck stiffener on the Starboard side was also cracked and needed repairs. While the rudders were in our factory for repairs, the owner asked to have the underwater section of the rudder blade re-shaped in a more efficient foil shape for better sailing performance. He also asked to re-paint the tops of the rudders in safety orange! Once re-installed these made quite a statement against the green hull! There was also some damage down below in the Starboard hull to the timber trim work which was repaired. Once the rudders were fitted back in position we discovered that the Starboard side steering ram was damaged and needed to be replaced. Once this was done the steering was bled and checked ready for use.
