We were asked to supply a quote to replace one of the keels on this catamaran. When the boat was lifted it was discovered that both keels were missing. How the keels were lost is a mystery as the owner was not aware of anything at the time. The original keels were built as a hollow structure from plywood, timber and epoxy. We suggested to make the new keels from solid Western Red Cedar and glassed in epoxy. This would be a far stronger and durable method as the entire weight of the boat is taken by the keels. The original keel design incorporated a ‘wing’ design on the base of the keel to improve performance, and these were fitted and made from solid fiberglass plate. The keels were made in our factory and then fitted and glassed to the boat on the hardstand. The connection was faired so that when painted the new keels blended seamlessly with the original hull surface.
