The Arvor range of boats are well recognized with distinctive styling. The ‘trawler’ style boat is fitted with an inboard diesel and a full cabin. This boat was being fitted for a new trailer when damage occurred to the hull. On closer inspection it was found that the hull was full of water putting excessive force on the lift points which caused a cracked section along the chine. Luckily the hull repair was accessible from the inside and it turned out this was the least of our concerns. In the engine room and the cabin the water level had gone as high as the aft deck and almost covered the engine. The first step was to pressure clean all affected areas and pump the dirty water out of the hull. Corrosion had already set in and wiring connections needed to be replaced. We found that the bilge pump wire was disconnected which if operational at the time of flooding, would have kept the hull dry. We also found that the engine hatch gutter drains were blocked. We checked the bilge pump to find that the float switch was not working which we replaced. We also replaced the batteries which had been underwater. The moral of this story being: always check your boat and keep up with a regular maintenance schedule.
