Timber-free construction is high on the wish list for many boat owners, and this Cruise Craft owner can now proudly say his boat is completely timber free.
What started as a repair for a couple of rotten side pockets quickly uncovered much more extensive timber deterioration. After a thorough inspection, it became clear there was very little sound timber left in the hull. The owner had travelled all the way from Queensland after being recommended to us by a trusted friend. He initially contacted us with photos of the damaged pocket bases and cracks in the transom that had him concerned. Once the boat arrived, we carried out a full inspection and confirmed that a complete rebuild was the best long-term solution.
The hull was stripped back and completely rebuilt, including a brand-new transom, using Coosa composite board throughout. This full epoxy rebuild utilised the appropriate grades of Coosa, with the lighter panels used where suitable and the heavy-duty grade selected for the transom and stringers to provide maximum strength in the highest-load areas.
While an epoxy composite rebuild is a greater investment than traditional methods, the result is an exceptionally strong and durable hull designed to provide decades of reliable service.
The owner was thrilled with the finished result and has reported that the boat is noticeably quicker on the water, thanks in part to the weight savings achieved by replacing the original timber construction with modern composite materials.
