This Haines 600R externally was in very good and original condition, however internally nearly all the plywood parts were rotten. The owner first approached us about a few mods, starting with a new wave breaker, also a couple of custom inbuilt bait tanks and some cosmetic work. Unfortunately when he was doing some work on the floor he found that the floor and the stringers were no good at all so decided to get the rebuild done as well. The transom had been replaced in plywood quite recently however once we looked further it was also rotted towards the bottom. Because we took out the engine well this was the opportune time to replace the transom which is what we did. The engine well for this boat was modified for a twin engine set up but the owner is fitting this boat with a single which allowed the space in the well for the two bait tanks. With the new stringers, bulkheads and floor underway in composite and epoxy we also found some rot in the bottom of the helm bulkhead which we replaced in composite. The owner also wanted most of the cut-outs and holes filled in on the dash and helm bulkhead which tidied up this area nicely. Moving onto the wave breaker which we mocked up first to ensure the design worked according to the owners expectations, and then formed up in composite. To make this job easier we glassed it, faired, primed and sanded this on the workshop floor. We’ll keep you informed on this project as it approaches completion.
